Over the past few weeks, I have had the opportunity to visit several birdwatching locations across southern Moravia. These included the scenic ponds near Jaroslavice, the peaceful waters around Mutěnice, as well as the wetlands of Dubňany and Hodonín. Each of these places offered a unique atmosphere and a variety of bird species to observe and photograph.
During my visits, I managed to capture a wide range of birdlife. Among the most common and photogenic species were the graceful grey herons standing silently at the pond’s edge, and the lively reed warblers hidden among the tall grasses, singing their distinctive melodies. I also spotted mallards gliding quietly across the water’s surface, seagulls circling above in search of food, and sparrows flitting through the bushes. The ever-familiar blackbird, with its striking dark plumage and melodic song, was a frequent subject as well.
In total, I took hundreds of photos, trying to capture not only the birds themselves but also the serene natural environments in which they live. While some moments passed too quickly to photograph, others gave me the time and light I needed to get satisfying shots. Photography in nature requires patience and often a bit of luck—but it's always rewarding.
This photo collection features my favorite moments and subjects from those outings. Each image has been selected based on either the bird’s pose, the lighting conditions, or the natural beauty of the setting. Although I encountered many more species, I decided to focus on the birds that made the biggest impression on me during these excursions.
I hope these photos convey some of the peacefulness and wonder I experienced while exploring these Moravian wetlands. Whether you're a bird enthusiast or simply enjoy glimpses of nature, I believe these images can provide a sense of calm and appreciation for the wildlife that surrounds us—often just a short trip away from the city.
